Record Growth in Venture Capital Investment Leads to Growth in IT Sales Recruitment<\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Since the days when \u201cSilicon Roundabout\u201d was a self-deprecating joke among tech founders entrepreneurs, London\u2019s tech scene has undergone a major transformation. According to global research firm, JLL, London has the highest concentration of talent in the world \u2013 stemming from its world-class universities and highly educated workforce. Nearly 59% of Londoners have a tertiary education, compared to the global average of just 34%. And thanks to massive investment in research and development over the past 5 years, more than 15% of London\u2019s workforce is employed in the high-tech sector. This has translated into one of the hottest sales job markets on the planet \u2013 with employers in a race to outhire and outrecruit the competition.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">2. Skyrocketing Demand for Sales Jobs &amp; Reps<\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Since March of 2015, unemployment in the city and the United Kingdom has been plummeting. \u00a0Rates have fallen from an average of over 6% in 2015, down <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ons.gov.uk\/employmentandlabourmarket\/peopleinwork\/employmentandemployeetypes\/bulletins\/uklabourmarket\/july2019#:~:text=For%20March%20to%20May%202019%2C%20the%20estimated%20employment%20rate%3A,a%20year%20earlier%20(80.1%25)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">to 3% by the end of 2019<\/a>. This has fuelled a surge in hiring requirements from growth focused scale-ups looking to stock their sales teams with fresh and proven talent.<\/p>\n<picture class=\"aligncenter wp-image-206878\" decoding=\"async\">\n<\/picture>\n<picture class=\"aligncenter wp-image-206878\" decoding=\"async\">\n<p><img alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"449\" src=\"https:\/\/media.peaksalesrecruiting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/SalesDemandGraph1-1024x648.png?strip=all&resize=710%2C449\" width=\"710\"\/>\n<\/picture><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Using Peak\u2019s data from more than 2500 UK firms, sales development reps topped the list of most actively recruited positions in 2019 at 50%, followed by account executives (30%), and customer success managers (25%). Demand for these roles can be directly attributed to SaaS sales organizational design and the need for a robust outbound sales force and customer retention team. Growth in the senior director and VP level sales positions was also seen from 2015-2019 as start-ups matured and investors demanded larger revenues and streams. It wasn\u2019t just employers who were flooding the market with job opportunities though.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Applications to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peaksalesrecruiting.com\/top-performing-sales-people-wanted\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Peak\u2019s portal<\/a>\u00a0for sales jobs in London grew by more than 15%, with 7\/10 applicants indicating that they were actively employed and \u201cpassively exploring sales opportunities\u201d. Applicants were from a variety of industries, with the largest being Software &amp; Services (65%), Telecommunications (20%), Industrial (15%), followed by Other (5%). Companies are Recruiting for Sales DNA<\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">The growth of tech companies hiring larger segments of junior sales employees has changed the mix of desired candidate selling skills, experience, and DNA. Hiring managers have prioritized educational background \u2013 with more than 50% indicating they look for candidates coming from either <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ox.ac.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Oxford University<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cam.ac.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">University of Cambridge<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Imperial College of London<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucl.ac.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">UCL<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lse.ac.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">London School of Economics and Political Science<\/a>. Hiring managers have deprioritized industry experience, and instead given favour to the sales DNA possessed by applicants.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.peaksalesrecruiting.com\/blog\/right-sales-dna-vs-right-resume\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Sales DNA<\/a>\u00a0are innate traits possessed by great salespeople. It\u00a0includes ambition, competitiveness, sense of urgency, confidence, perseverance, optimism, resilience, and the ability and desire to influence others. They are what allow top salespeople to make good judgements, create good luck for themselves and capitalize on opportunities that average salespeople miss. And they are what employers are looking more closely for when interviewing and assessing candidates. A study of <a href=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/story\/279152\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">COVID-19 mitigation measures by UK startups<\/a>\u00a0revealed that few startups have significantly cut headcount.
